Welcome to Igloo Cafe!

Igloo Cafe is a tiny retro-Internet and retro-gaming community project, inspired in the ideals of the Tildeverse, SDF and on the old Internet ambience. Originally started in September 2020 as an experimental server for hosting tiny personal homepages for some friends, today seeks to be a place to make different projects and services based on our main purpose and to continue being a small community of people who seek to create or share the same interests as ours.

Members here can create and modify their homepages, contribute to our wiki, while any of our visitors can play and explore our public ClassiCube server or participate in a message board. We also have a variety of other misc websites, services and random weird projects that you can find at the middle of the sidebar.

The design of this website is highly inspired on Penguin.CZ (aka Penguin Server) and on VectorStar Networks, an old free shell account provider created sometime in 1995 that sadly closed between 2007 and 2008.

[2023-08-22] Homepage news changes, IPv6, Igloo Arena & IglooPipe closure

In the near future, the news written in this space will be replaced by news from our BBS Newsletter to facilitate the writing and to avoid confusion. All old news (including this one) will be archived in an separate HTML page hosted on this domain.

Among other things, I just enabled IPv6 on the server through a tunnel and also Arena Igloo Cafe will be coming back gradually. For now the website (and gopherhole) are still under construction and I'm only running some QuakeWorld and Xash3D (Half-Life) servers but more will come soon.

And finally, IglooPipe will close on September 1, 2023. All videos will be archived on Internet Archive and the site will become inaccessible after the closure. More info on the BBS.

[2023-05-28] Some new recent updates

The Igloo Cube server has been moved to our main server instead of eddyn due to stability problems. Please use this new hash "0bb03e6c525f8fcc36b989b14c0db939", the old one no longer works.

And by the way, IglooGB will be temporarily closed as I will be rewriting all the code from scratch again because the current code structure has become too long and obsolete. All previous content will still be stored and will not be removed.

[2023-05-18] HTTP/2 enabled and changes to our PHP user scripts

We have just enabled HTTP/2 on our Nginx server for better loading speed in modern browsers.

Among other things, we're moving our user scripts to "cgi.igloocafe.space". We recommend updating the URLs of your hit counters or other scripts you have linked with us in your personal igloo ASAP.

[2023-05-17] Unexcepted server maintenance downtime

It appears that this server went down without reason overnight on May 13/14 for maintenance at the DataWagon/Sparked data centers.

Everything is back to normal now.

[2023-04-29] Shutdown of our Monitorix server and of Igloo Arena

Due to low usage and hardware limitations, we decided to close our Monitorix statistics web server and we have also decided to "temporarily" close our classic gameservers subproject, Igloo Arena (nothing related to Igloo Cube btw).

I'm also sorry for the long inactivity that has been happening here lately, I've been busy creating a new project that I think will be of interest to some of you. Stay tuned...

[2022-10-31] Guestbook system will be changed soon

As of November 2, 2022, the current web guestbook system (which is using PHPJunkyard's Guestbook 1.4) will be switched to IglooGB, a new own Igloo Cafe guestbook system created by me (GeckoF) that has multi-user and customization functionalities.

When this happens, your guestbook folder will be removed from your SFTP account and will instead be accessed from a user panel. You will also receive a new password from a sysop which is recommended to be changed for security. And no, all the old comments in your guestbook will remain but the smileys can no longer be changed and will be the same for all users.

[2022-05-03] FTP accounts now accessible via SFTP

As of May 3, 2022, all previously existing FTP accounts will be INACCESSIBLE as they have been moved to our main OpenSSH SFTP server. This has been done because I no longer felt safe generating random passwords to users.

If you want to use your FTP account again, you will need to create an RSA2048/Ed25519 SSH key (using ssh-keygen or PuTTYgen) and then send your public key to a sysop. Everything remains as it is and nothing has changed in your files.

After several weeks of configuration and testing, I decided to post something here.
